Today was the first day of school, technically 3rd Grade. After I dropped you off at your new class, I drove home in tears. This is not what I expected for you, this is not what you were desiring in your heart…. a heart that doesn’t fully comprehend the world around it. You were scared and nervous and very much out of a comfort zone.
The classroom is cold and empty. There were no hugs to greet you, no smile to welcome you, just a cold hard desk to sit upon. You tried so hard to be brave, but you were quivering. I could see you trying to understand, but your eyes looked empty and my heart sank.
I left you and cried. I cried for God to help me see the beauty in this day, in this moment. I asked for strength to leave you and be filled with peace.
I am sad and lonely for you. I wonder how this day could be a blessing from God, one that I just can’t see.
Oh, God, please help me to see… with your eyes.
”God’s goodness is found in dry and difficult places. How often, I wonder, do we fail to see His goodness because our spiritual senses have been dulled by comfort. Sometimes God’s gifts are seen more clearly when we are tired and thirsty. May we always thirst for Him (Ps. 143:6).
Dear Lord, may our desire for You be like that of
a deer panting for cold, refreshing water. Please
don’t allow comfort or worldly success to keep us
from seeing You in every detail of our lives.”
