Maggie, what a wonderful job you are doing in school. And to think, we were worried. You love going to school! All we have to say is "school" and your face lights up! I love you, Maggie Pie and we are ALL so proud of you!

Dear Heidi,

I found your blog when I was looking up info on potty training children with low muscle tone. Your blog has struck a cord with me. My son's name is Josiah. He is 3 1/2 years old. He has recently been evaluated by our school board after our pediatrician stated that he needed to be evaluated for low muscle tone or "floppy muscles". On many levels his development has been normal. However we've noticed delays in others. He is 3 1/2 and he still drools to the point of soaking his shirt. He is unable to pedal a tricycle, ride a push car, etc. Until recently his speech was very delayed. We did have his tonsils removed in May (they were quite enlarged), and we can't stop him from talking now!! We have been unable to potty train him, though I am now making a concentrated attempt. He seems unable to control this area though, so I'm keeping it very low key. He is now recieving therapy services through our school district. Yesterday I found myself near tears as he struggled through tasks that would be simple for another child. He is an amazing little boy! So tenderhearted, sweet, joyful and often too smart for his own good! We would not change him for the world. And I am quite certain that God would use His struggles to form his character in a unique way. I will not deny though that it is difficult when I see people treating him as a baby or assuming that he is somehow less intelligent because he is not yet potty trained, still drooling, etc. I wish they could understand that his mind is just fine, it's his body that is not cooperating! Anyhow, sorry for the long comment, but I could relate to the struggle of releasing your little one to the hands of others. Maggie looks like a beautiful little girl and I will be lifting you and your family up in prayer tonight.
